Now this incredible chamber is open to everyone thanks to an incredible team who worked 24 hours a day for two months to blast into the unknown and open up the previously unseen cavern beneath the Mendips.

Three tonnes of explosives and thousands of detonators were used to blast through 1000 tonnes of rock and reveal the spectacular cave.

To reach the cave you walk through seventy metres of tunnel where you’ll find a gentle subterranean lake and breathtaking rock formations. Experts have been left baffled by one particular fluted rock which is called Rillenkarren.

This unusual geological formation is normally only seen on the surface and is rarely found in caves.
